PROJECT: Through the Tlaxcala Cultural centre, Plan Bioma intends to create a space for children and young people allowing them to recognize themselves and their environment through culture and art. It is an important point for parents and adults, in general, to become involved in the cultural education of children and youth through their participation in the various activities organized by the project. In addition, it serves as a space for out-of-school support to children to level them in subjects such as Spanish, Math and English.
BILATERAL COOPERATION: NICE and AMVIAC have coordinated a bilateral project with fantastic results making people from both countries to get to know more each other through an important intercultural exchange. The creation of the Mexico-Japon in only one heart project had a fabulous impact in the community of San Cristobal de ls Casas. Volunteers and local population have gathered around this project in which they learn about their cultures, educational habits and at the same time to contributed to the betterment of the place where the project will be carried out.
ACTIVITIES: The objective of the project is to get children involved in their own development and to develop artistic and cultural concerns, promote values such as respect for the environment, respect for cultural differences, solidarity, respect for others, fellowship, etc., through Non-Formal Education. Volunteers will hold language workshops, reading-writing, literacy, and environmental protection, ecology, cultural rescue activities through recreational activities, whether with songs, games and/or crafts made with recycled materials, as well as music, language and art workshops. Japanese volunteers will carry out presentations of Japan and its culture to students. And Japanese volunteers will learn more about Mexico and its traditions, educational system while contributing to the well-being of the local youth and children.
LOCATION: San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, México.
TERMINAL: Tuxtla Gutiérrez airport, there you can take a bus to San Cristóbal de las Casas.
LANGUAGE: Spanish and Japanese, any knowledge of English language will be useful.
REMARKS: Interest in the theme of non-formal education, work with children and art. We recommend you to bring handcrafts and traditional games from your country.
PARTICIPATION FEE: $2,800 pesos (130 euros), includes accommodation, meals and some material for the project.
